I had my first full volunteer day on thursday. It was great. I was a smidge nervous going in, but loved it once i was there. Most of my time was spent with a two month old. She smiled at me nonstop until she got hungry, and then she yelled at me. They got her a bottle, and i held her and fed her. I had to wear a gown and gloves which made it a little slippery, so i had to hold on extra tight. One of the child life specialists had mentioned that her husband's happy she works there, because it gives her enough of a baby fix that she's not itching to have her own yet. I can see how that works. It was great to hold such a little one without having the responsibilities that go with having one. I won' t start in the outpatient unit for another week, but can't wait to do so. It'll be interesting to see how different the two units are.
