My right vein is rejecting needles. It used to be that just the new blood techs would miss the draw, but now it's to the point where everyone does. This was the third time in a row where they picked up scar tissue and had to stop. While trying to reposition the needle in order to get the access pressure up, they started discussing how the vein felt hard, and the theory became that it's been bruised so much that it's never been able to fully heal. It explains why that section of my arm randomly feels sore, even when i haven't donated recently. The vein's angry. Since it's become such a consistent problem, they're going to switch things around next time and look for different veins for the draw and return. I hope it works. It's so important to me, and i'd be really sad if i couldn't donate anymore. Really sad.

The people I work with say to get a junkie in there and they'll get the needles all set up. Just push right through that scar tissue.

Ha! Ya- a junkie would be perfect for children's hospital. They do push threw the scar tissue, but what happens is a piece of it gets picked up in the needle. Then my platelets get to work and clot the whole thing before they can strip the tube (which pulls the piece of scar tissue out of the way). Then there's no access pressure. Sometimes, when the 2 good people do it, they just shove threw the tissue which hurts like a sob, and get the vein perfectly. Everything starts, but then the access pressure drops after 15 mins or so, and they can't get it back up. Bah humbug. Hopefully the new veins will work. They've used these two 76 times or so, so it makes sense that they're tired.
